We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join Medine group I Shared Services. This role will assist Accountant(s) in the maintenance, reporting, and management of the organisation’s finance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assistance
- Work closely with direct reporting line to ensure a smooth running of the finance team.
- Assist in the preparation of year budget, cash flow, income, expenditure patterns among others.
- Assist in the update of financial procedures. Update and ensure it is communicated to all concerned staff.
- Assist in the end of year closing and financial statement preparation.
- Assist in the preparation of reports as required by law, regulations, and company policies.
- Assist in the audit and statutory reporting requirements.
Monitoring
- Monitor debtors and creditors ledger.
- Monitor all budgets on a monthly basis.
- Escalate significant budget variances concerns on a timely basis to enable corrective action to be taken quickly.
- Monitor invoices and cheques requisitions and ensure procedure is followed accordingly.
- Review Purchase Orders. Check documents for completeness and compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Liaise with external service providers for timely delivery of accounts. Review the work to ensure accuracy.
- Prepare audit file for year-end audits.
Analysis
- Provide assistance to project managers in cost control.
- Perform relevant cost analysis.
- Monitor the efficiency of internal controls.
- Assist direct superior in the implementation of policies and procedures.
- Analyse results against budgets and re-forecasting of revenue and expenses for future months.
Financial Management
- Compute figures and prepare recurring account statements.
- Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns, ensuring compliance with payment reporting and other tax requirements.
- Prepare management accounts and budgets.
- Prepare cash flows.
- Prepare Statutory accounts.
Team Management
- Give appropriate work instruction to subordinate. Coordinate and supervise work of team.
- Do weekly works programs/ priorities for team and report back.
- Set goals, establish result measurements and review job progress of subordinates.
- Provide assistance in training/ coaching and support development of team.
- Keep team motivated.
- Ensure that work meets quality standards by reviewing work for accuracy and proper completion and monitoring output
Minimum education requirements
- Partly ACCA qualified – Level 1 & 2 achieved
Candidate’s Profile
- Demonstrate clear understanding of VAT issues and procedures.
- Have knowledge of the builder’s certificate procedures.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping terminology and practices.
- Ability to detect errors.
- Ability to understand and apply current accounting guidelines and policies.
- Ability to follow, apply, interpret and explain instructions.
- Ability to work in tight deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize own workload and those within team.
- Proactive.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
