The Sugar Insurance Fund Board (SIFB) chose Medine to showcase the use of drone technology to survey sugar-cane fields on the island. A presentation was organised on the 20th of June at Medine Agriulture and was attended by Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the COI (Commission de l’Ocean Indien), Mr. Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo, Dr. Rajun Jugurnauth, SIFB’s CEO, Thierry Sauzier, CEO of Medine Group, a team of Estonian drone pilots and analysts as well as members of the press.
During the event Thierry Sauzier stated that, « The Medine Group has always been a pioneer in the integration of new technologies for the development of its cane activity in Mauritius. We were namely among the firsts to implement the derocking process and mechanisation of the fields. Technology is one possible answer to the positive and favourable evolution of our cane industry. We welcome this initiative of the Ministry that enables us to discover new opportunities of enhancing efficiency and yields of this industry. »
