Medine, pioneer in sustainable agriculture.

Between 2015 and 2018, Mauritius was ranked number 1 in the world in the use of pesticides. Since over a decade, Medine is the pioneer in sustainable agriculture (Agriculture raisonnée), based on a set of measures to avoid the use of pesticides and aiming at producing tasty and healthy fruits and vegetables under ‘Les Jardins de Medine’ brand.

How? This starts with a series of measures including the use of our own natural compost which helps nourish the soil healthily. In our fields, large trees are planted in rows alongside our crops and act as windbreaks which reduce the impact of the wind on our plants and make them more resistant. Crop rotation helps furthermore to reduce pest infestation and disease.

When in exceptional cases the use of pesticides cannot be avoided, the teams apply a strict controls on the usage of minimal quantities and the timeframe before harvest to ensure that no residue remain in the crops. All of our products are regularly tested for pesticide residue by an independent laboratory.
