The Medine Group is fundamentally committed to Education and the Preservation of the Environment and, through the Fondation Medine Horizons, is committed to preserve endemic species of the island. This endeavour is supported by Casela World of Adventures, in collaboration with the National Parks and Conservation Services (NPCS).
A MoU was signed on May 10, 2018 in Port Louis by Paul Williams, Managing Director of Casela World of Adventures and Hon. Mahen Seeruttun, Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security. This five-year agreement is geared towards the setting up of a major conservation programme to safeguard endemic species and to educate the wider public (mainly children) about this programme
« This conservation work has already begun in the park, with local species such as Kestrel, bats or creole cows. This agreement now allows us to work with all parties concerned locally and also collaborate with other international partners to ensure the conservation of the endemic fauna and flora of Mauritius », explains Paul Williams, General Manager of Casela. He further adds: « Few Mauritians know the different animal species of the island and Casela will add another dimension to its present efforts for the conservation of these species; it will set up an interactive educational program, which will allow the Mauritian public and especially schoolchildren, but also tourists, to discover the great reptiles, birds and other endemic species of fauna and flora of the island. »
This MoU marks the start of a major collaboration between the public and private sectors and has long been prepared by the Park situated at Cascavelle. « This conservation programme initiated by Casela which encompasses both education and the preservation of the environment, will, we hope, allow as many people as possible to understand the richness of our country but also its fragility and the need to preserve it », further underlines Céline Guillot-Sestier, Communications and CSR Manager of the Medine Group.
